The...Larch

L. europaea The European Larch

The Larch is essentially a mountain tree. It abounds on the Alps up to an altitude of 5,000 feet, and occurs on the Apennines and Carpathians, but is unknown in a wild state on the Pyrenees, or in the Spanish or Scandinavian peninsulas. It forms large woods in Russia, but is represented in Northern Asia by a variety ( Larix sibirica ), with smooth, gray bark, sometimes considered a distinct species.

The genus Larix, to which the Larch ( L. europaea ) belongs, is distinguished among Firs by its deciduous foliage, and the whole joyousness of spring seems heralded and epitomized in the emerald glory of its April frondescence.

I'm not particularly familiar with The...Larch and I don't know if I would recognize it if I ran into it, but any excuse will do to insert a Python reference. And to use frondescence

Well, that was easy. There can't be many who have not heard the recent ravings of Dick Durbin, (D) the senior Senator from Illinois. I have little to add that isn't obscene or wouldn't violate some law. I'll let his home-town paper speak.

...And then Durbin said this: "If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime--Pol Pot or others--that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners."

Here we thought Sen. Dick Durbin had a cushy job that he likes. Truth told, he's auditioning for the job of Speechwriter/Silly Similes at Amnesty International. Nazis? Soviets? Pol Pot? Mad regimes?

We know what Durbin thinks about the treatment of Guantanamo prisoners. So what's the proper treatment of our coverage-hungry senior senator when he displaces the ever-present microphone long enough to insert his foot in his mouth? Ignore him. That would be torture.

Perhaps, though, citizens should be grateful. At least Durbin has stopped repeating that odd little joke about President Lincoln--that he must have been Jewish because his first name was Abraham and he was shot in the temple.

On Tuesday night, the Collectivist Nuts Network's Jane Arraf reported while with US and Iraqi soldiers on a search for murderers in Baghdad. An Iraqi squad searching an apparently empty house found what looked like a bomb making manual (shown on camera) and said this proved to them that there were terrorists there. Her narration: "But they won't say how". (they know). Maybe it was with the "cookbooks".

...we'd all cast nets. I've been lookin' around this here "Sphere" thingy and I noticed this trend that seems to be gettin' pop'lar. It's these here Blogdads, or whatever. And folks have all these cute little signs sayin' Gimmee and "I wants" oh, this 'n that from some lady with only one uh, well, you know.

And there's these little gals in their undies and folks sellin' the shirts right off their backs. And there's this Andy feller always seems upset.

Well, I dint do too good in sellin', so I'm just gonna git right to 'er. I got this Birthday thingy comin' up, so just like Sandy Claws I set 'n made a list.

Maybe some idjit 'll just amble on by 'n figger I really needs this stuff. It ain't much. I'll start on the communicatin' gear. Here goes 'n I'll have another special next week.

Vice-President Cheney shows compassion to a clearly relieved Kim Jong-Il after their recent spat. Of course, seasoned observers noted El Pouffy Grande had his fingers crossed behind his back and Mr. Cheney seemed to be flexing his fingers in a curiously familiar gesture, as if he was about to crush a poached egg. Note that you can not see either man's feet.
